Being Human
As someone who is half Chinese and half Malay in Indonesia, I’ve often faced questions about my identity—my race, religion, and appearance—leading me to wonder why differences matter and why judgment persists. Society tends to define identity through rigid labels, creating division and misunderstanding rather than embracing diversity.
This conceptual exhibition transforms personal experience into a visual narrative, using slime, wire, tape, ketchup, and other materials to represent the chaotic yet beautiful diversity of humanity. Through interviews with individuals from various backgrounds, I explored the question: What does it mean to be human? These perspectives will be showcased in the exhibition, alongside an engaging campaign video and social media prompts. By embracing differences and fostering dialogue, this project encourages reflection on identity, acceptance, and shared humanity, reinforcing human connection as a powerful unifying force.
