Subak Key Visual Concept

Museum is launching an exhibition on Subak, Bali’s UNESCO-recognized irrigation system, but its visuals have long been dominated by overused terraced rice field imagery. While iconic, this does not fully capture Subak’s agricultural significance or its deep connection to Tri Hita Karana, the philosophy of harmony between humans, nature, and spirituality. Additionally, the exhibition’s visuals needed to align with the museum’s clean, black-and-white, and elegant branding.

To present a fresh and meaningful perspective, I focused on rice paddy plants and other crops nourished by Subak, such as white, red, and black rice, corn, and soy, showcasing its broader agricultural impact. This refined visual approach maintains the Museum’s sophisticated aesthetic while offering a contemporary, culturally rich narrative that deepens visitor engagement with Bali’s sustainable farming traditions.
